Moving to Cairns! Would love some opinions/advice on good/bad areas etc?

My partner and I are thinking of moving to Cairns at the end of the year. We know there's cyclones etc, that does not worry us, We have lived in areas prone to cyclones before. We would just like to hear what people from Cairns have to say about it and also some advice on which areas are good for a family as we have a young baby. We have been looking at houses to rent in Edmonton?? Any advice/opinions appreciated!
